Names of the Grape

They say the baby is the size of a grape now and she actually looks like a baby, albeit grape-sized. It is still really early, but C and I began talking about names almost two years ago. This is good because I am prepared for his name selections. The boy names will be very strong and almost scary sounding because they are of Czech/Russian origin as a nod to his ancestors. And over two years, almost anything can come to sound normal. Thankfully, he does not want to name our little girl Helga, or anything with harsh sounding consonants. I think we have come to an agreement on names for both genders. Or at least an acceptable pool of names. I can barely begin to explain to you how difficult this is for us. On one hand, you have me, the storyteller, the one that insists that our child is unique and has a name with history and meaning. Then there is C, who is all about tradition and family names (thankfully, there are a lot of names in his family that meet my criteria). He even wants to steal the family name that his little brother claimed. I don't care for it. But, it was far simpler than I would have guessed to say yes to this small gathering of names for the little one. I just regret naming the puppy Boris, because that was definitely a contending name in C's Czech/Russian category!
